about

EPILEKTRICITY! #4 is dedicated in its entirety to the memory of electronic music composer İlhan Mimaroğlu (1926-2012). His passing resparked my interest in his music and especially his electronic tape composition "Agony" which is highly complex and for its time quite aggressive and direct. During the production of the series I have regularly listened to his music and in spirit if not in deed, his music has filtered into the massive stack of audio that is the Epilektricity! series. He kicked Autechre's ass back in the sixties, you'd be well advised to give his music a listen!

Some details, then.

The center piece of EPILEKTRICITY #4 - "Elemente - Für Festeplattenlaufwerk Mit Rückkopplung" is a 23½ minute complex composition that took several weeks of intense work to complete back in 2012 and was iterated upon several times. It has previously been featured on the Etch Wear sampler "Shearing Bossa Noise" in an 18 minute early version.

"Elements of Time" represents selections of the same base material recycled and repurposed through the machinery of founding member Miza [R]. This is our first direct sonic collaboration for more than a decade and affirms his keen eye for minute details and thoughtful compositions. It has a duration of six minutes.

"Mise En Scéne / ミザンセーヌ" is a five minute orchestral improvisation based on the same material, but sounding very different. Generated in early 2013, it was the originating track that spawned the drone project ¶ - but appears here as it was intended as a companion and setting the stage for.....

"Filamente - Aleatoria (II) Für Epilektronische Geräte [live]" which is a soundboard recording of Epilektrician performing live at MIR on Saturday, November 10th 2012. This 27 minute recording is the complete recording of our set this day and was improvised 100% live and unrehearsed with no backing tracks of any sort. The sound was produced by a Roland CR-78 drum machine, a portable version of the Silver Suture modular synthesizer and live sample triggering. On this evening other acts was Ekofisk who played a shortand intense modular synthesis set and headliner Black Rain, represented by mr. Argabright (also of Ike Yard and Dominatrix) played mind-numbing selections from Now I'm Just A Number.
